SAN ANTONIO, Texas - UTSA used two first period goals to defeat Louisiana Tech, 2-0, on Sunday evening at the UTSA Rec Sports Complex.
The LA Tech (9-9-1, 4-5 C-USA) offense was shutout for the second time this weekend in what was a challenging road swing. It was not any easier for the Techster defense as both weekend opponents tallied 20 shots as well.
"Friday's match just took too much out of us," head coach Kevin Sherry said. UTSA's No. 17 was the difference today and the one player we just could not handle."
UTSA's (5-11-2, 4-3-2 C-USA) first shot on goal connected as No. 17 Happy Orere-Amadu split the LA Tech defense and beat Updyke to her right in the 11th minute, giving the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.
The home team went up 2-0 in the 25th minute when Charlotte Husoe's shot hit the crossbar, but she was able to put in the rebound.
The Lady Techsters were not without a lack of scoring opportunities in the first half, generating 11 shots but only three were on goal.
The team would only record five more attempts in the second half.
Caitlin Updyke ended the day with nine saves.
"It is time for us to recover and regroup for one last push," Sherry said. "We play have a lot to play for on Thursday."
LA Tech returns home for Senior Night in the last regular season game of the season, a 7 p.m. contest on Thursday, Oct. 31 versus Rice at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
