RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech Athletic Department announced the resignation of head soccer coach Jen Burns on Friday morning. Burns resigned after building the soccer program at Tech as the first head coach, saying she plans on pursuing other career opportunities outside of coaching. Burns said she enjoyed her three seasons at Tech and is proud of how far the team has come since the first year.
“It was a great experience building this program from the beginning,” Burns said. “I think that next year will be the year the girls really turn the corner and become a team that can do great things in the WAC and out of the conference as well. The pieces are starting to come together, and I think whoever inherits the team is going to have a good team.”
Burns was the first soccer coach at Tech and had a career record of 11-30-5. The first season’s team consisted of mainly walkons, and eight athletes recently signed National Letters of Intent to join the Lady Techsters as its third recruiting class. This season, the team had its first draw in a conference game and scored its first goal in WAC play. The Techsters did not play a conference schedule the first season.
Tech athletic director Jim Oakes said what Burns did to build the soccer program will not be forgotten any time soon.
“We appreciate Jen’s hard work in building a women’s soccer program at Louisiana Tech,” Oakes said. “When she arrived on campus there was no soccer program, and she has recruited a team and done an excellent job of establishing a program that will be successful in the years ahead. We wish her all the best in all her future endeavors.”
