Louisiana Tech Soccer to Play Spring Games
RUSTON, La. -- After an improving season last year, the Louisiana Tech soccer team is gearing up for some spring soccer.
“We start spring practice March 13, and it will go through the end of April,” Tech head soccer coach Jen Soileau said. “We’re going to be competing in four Saturday events starting March 18 at Centenary. Two of the games will be indoor soccer games, and the other two will be outdoor. The indoor soccer games are really exciting and fun for the girls. It stresses touch and finesse more than speed and athleticism, and we substitute on the fly similar to hockey.”
Tech will also be playing against McNeese, UL-Lafayette as well as Northwestern State.
“I’m very excited,” Soileau said. “Everybody on our spring schedule are Louisiana teams. I’m interested to see how our girls compare to them in the spring.”
The Lady Techsters will be returning LSWA Freshman of the Year Emily Cleaveland among a host of others to compete for the WAC title next year.
“Our roster has changed a bit,” Soileau said. “We lost some players to graduation and other things, so we’ve got a little bit of a smaller roster, but it’s a good core of girls. I think they’re getting ready to play again and getting excited about that.”
Coach Soileau said she is confident that the spring games will help her team’s chemistry and get them ready for the fall.
“I’m looking forward to these weekends we have,” Soileau said. “Hopefully this will encourage the girls to take what they’ve done in the spring and go home this summer and continue to work get prepared for a good fall for us.”
