RUSTON - Prior to the start of the spring season, the Louisiana Tech soccer team used its time and energy to contribute to another community service project, helping a recycling drive on campus.
The drive was organized by Kendall K. Belcher, NSBE Recycling Committee Chair, where students collected items such as plastics, plastic grocery bags, paper, batteries, light bulbs, tires, newspapers, clear glass bottles and more.
The soccer team helped take the recyclables from the Centennial Plaza collection point to the office in Bogard Hall and sort through them.
The project meant a lot to the head coach Kevin Sherry and the players, especially freshman defender Nichole Jaquemet.
"When we found out about the recycling event, we all wanted to help," said Jaquemet. "Many of us are very proactive with regards to recycling and we wanted to do our part."
Service continues to be one of the four pillars that coach Sherry instilled in his soccer program. Further recycling drives are planned in the near future.
