Third Annual Soccer Fun Fest Set for March 16

March 11, 2013

RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech soccer program will conduct its third annual Soccer Fun Fest beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 16 at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.

The extravaganza will officially kick off on Friday, the night before, from 7-9 p.m. at the Crescent City Coffee House in Ruston (1007 N. Trenton St.) where soccer alumni, the soccer community, kids and parents can come and meet the Lady Techsters players and staff.

The team will be taking orders and serving drinks with a portion of the takings going towards the program's fundraising efforts.

The night will also consist of soccer giveaways and a soccer-themed quiz with prizes awarded for the winning team.

On Saturday, the fun fest will open at 11 a.m. with the second ever alumni game and carnival fun fair games, followed by the kid's soccer qualification tournament (ages 6-13). Kids are encouraged to arrive before 11:30 a.m. in order to participate.

"Our soccer festival has become an annual event now and it is something we are very proud of," said head coach Kevin Sherry. "It is an opportunity for the whole soccer community to come together and celebrate this wonderful sport. It is such a fun day with the alumni returning and giving the team a chance to say thank you to the community for all their support. It is the highlight of the year for LA Tech soccer."

At 2 p.m., LA Tech will take on Jackson State in what will be its third game of the spring season. The match will be broken into two 45-minute halves.

At halftime, the community soccer parents and older teenagers will square off in a match themselves.

Following the completion of the Jackson State contest, the ages 6-13 soccer tournament finals will take place.

Throughout the event, live music will be provided by Radio 94.1 FM. Food (hots dogs, hamburgers, etc.), beverages and LA Tech Soccer t-shirts will also be for sale to those attending.

This event is yet another free service put on by the Lady Techsters with the intention of promoting the sport of soccer in the Ruston community. They already offer free soccer clinics throughout the year.
