SHREVEPORT -- The Louisiana Tech women's soccer team won two games and tied one before they were defeated in the championship game of the Centenary Indoor Tournament at S'Port Port Indoor Soccer Center Saturday.
"I think we had a pretty good day," Tech head coach Kevin Sherry said. "I noticed some good points and some not so good points, but I know we will be able to work on and improve the needed areas in practice."
The Lady Techsters started the tournament strong as they beat LSU Shreveport 9-3.
Following their first win of the spring season, Tech led 2-0 in their second game against UALR. The Trojans added a goal and then tied the game on a penalty kick in the final moments of the match. The game ended in 2-2 tie.
Both UALR and the Techsters went 1-0-1 in their first two games of the tournament, but since LA Tech scored more goals, they earned the top seed in Bracket B and advanced to the semifinal round.
In the semifinal match, the Lady Techsters topped ULM by a score of 6-4. Tech controlled the game from start to finish. Brittany Coffinbargar had a solid game for the Techsters as she recorded a hat trick in the win.
Tech and UALR squared off one more time in the championship game. This time, the Trojans were one step ahead of the Techsters. UALR defeated Tech 3-0 and won the indoor tournament.
The tournament was the Techsters first of the spring season.
Tech will take the field for the second time this season in the Louisiana College Cup, a 11 v. 11 outdoor tournament, on March 21 in Lafayette, La.
