LAFAYETTE, La. - The Louisiana Tech soccer team opened up the spring season in impressive fashion as they defeated McNeese State and host UL-Lafayette on Saturday evening to take the Louisiana College Cup title at Moore Park.
"It was two very tough games and a great achievement when you consider we only started spring practice two days ago," said head coach Kevin Sherry. "The ladies executed the game plan perfectly and were deserving of the championship."
The four-team tournament started with a semifinal matchup versus McNeese for LA Tech. The match went scoreless through regulation, but the Lady Techsters bested the Cowgirls 8-7 on penalty kicks.
The winning penalty kick came off the foot of Madison Doll.
LA Tech advanced to the finals to face the Ragin' Cajuns and came out on top 1-0 with Kathryn Sloan scoring the game-winner.
Next up for the Techsters is a trip to Little Rock, Ark. to face Harding University on March 23.
