RUSTON - The 10th anniversary of the Louisiana Tech soccer program was celebrated on Saturday at the fourth annual Soccer Fun Fest which was slam-packed with a full day of activities at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
Festivities started in the morning with matches running throughout the day, including a full 90-minute match versus ULM which LA Tech took a 2-0 victory over the Warhawks.
Both goals came in the first half, the first coming off the foot of Kathryn Sloan who played off a through ball into the penalty area and shot low in the corner for what would be the game winner at the 20 minute mark.
An insurance goal came at the 35 minute mark when Hannah Dauzat, who assisted on the first goal, followed up a shot which rebounded off the keeper to score from close range.
"Overall it was a good performance, but not our best," said head coach Kevin Sherry. "We know we can do better, especially in the final third but there were many positives to take from the game. The passing was first class and the overall tempo of our game was high from start to finish."
Following the win, the England Select Club visiting from across the pond defeated the Cajun Soccer Club, 3-0.
And capping off the day was a battle between the LA Tech alumni and the LA Tech `B' team. The alumni showed they still have plenty of skills on the soccer field as they took the 3-1 victory.
Left on the spring schedule for the Lady Techsters is a visit to Tyler, Texas on April 5 versus Tyler JC and University of Texas-Tyler, followed by the `Kick for the Cure' 7-a-side tournament at Burns Park in Little Rock, Ark. on April 12.
