Tech Soccer Wins Final Spring Tournament
RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech soccer team won a seven-on-seven tournament this weekend at Northwestern State to close out its spring off-season schedule. The Lady Techsters won four in a row to claim the tournament and defeated a field that included teams from UL-Lafayette, UL-Monroe, Centenary and host Northwestern State for the tournament win.
Interim head coach Rich Stoneman said he was pleased with how the team turned things around from its previous spring match against Centenary.
“The difference was we finished our opportunities. We finished the chances we’ve been missing in the past,” Stoneman said. “We attacked and were relentless in our pursuit to get goals. We came from behind to get wins and didn’t look back.”
The tournament may have been a 7v7 event, but Stoneman said the team is taking pride in getting the win because it showed the team has grown in the offseason and has something to build on for the fall.
“It was just a 7v7 tournament, but we got our first piece of hardware from a tournament,” Stoneman said. “The girls were rewarded for their efforts and it was a great way to end the spring and head into the fall for us.”
