LA Tech Soccer Adds Three Transfers
June 21, 2018
RUSTON – In an effort to bolster the lineup with more experience, Louisiana Tech women’s soccer head coach Kevin Sherry announced on Thursday the addition of three transfers.
“With so many graduating seniors leaving the team and having a large high school senior recruiting class, it was important to bring in some experience to give the squad more balance and battle readiness,” Sherry said. “It was vital for this recruiting class to have both talent and experience to give us the best chance to compete at the C-USA level. These three are very talented, athletic and very motivated to help the program succeed.”
Engel spent two years for the Knights in Macon, Georgia. The Germany native appeared in 28 career games on the back line as a defender. She was named to the SSAC All-Academic Team as a sophomore.
Zettler lettered two years for the Lady Crusaders in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. As a sophomore, she helped the team to a 19-3 overall record, an appearance in the NAIA National Championship semifinals and a runner-up finish in the SSAC.
The forward was named second team SSAC All-Conference after leading the team in goals with 13, elevating William Carey to a No.1 national ranking. As a freshman, she registered 15 points on seven goals and one assist while being selected to the SSAC All-Freshman Team.
Winstone spent one year as a defender for the Fighting Falcons in Fairmont, West Virginia. She started 14 of 15 games on the back line, going the distance in 10 matches. She was named to the All-MEC Academic Team.
Fall camp for LA Tech will begin on Aug. 5 with the season opener taking place on Aug. 17 versus Texas State at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
