RUSTON – Former Louisiana Tech star Kathryn Sloan was chosen as the recipient of the Conference USA Scholar Athlete Award for women’s soccer, announced by the league office on Friday. C-USA Faculty Athletics Representatives selected the Scholar Athlete of the Year awards which are presented to the top student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport based on academic achievement (GPA), athletic achievement and service. Sloan is one of the most decorated student-athletes in LA Tech history, finishing her soccer career as the program’s all-time leader in points and goals as well as being the first Bulldog or Lady Techster to be selected Academic All-America of the Year. Academically, the Kansas City, Missouri native graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, earning her degree in communication arts and design. She has also been a four-time recipient of the Commissioner’s Academic Medal as well as a three-time Conference USA All-Academic First Team honoree. Sloan was extremely active in the community during her four-year career as well, volunteering for 4Paws Dog Rescue, Relay for Life, St. Jude Radiothon and at multiple LA Tech events. Sloan becomes the first student-athlete from LA Tech to receive this honor since joining the league in 2013.
