Kgoale Selected as C-USA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year
Aug. 7, 2017
RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech senior defender Nomvula Kgoale was one of 11 players selected to the Preseason Women's Soccer All-Conference USA Team as well as being chosen as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in a vote by the league head coaches.
Kgoale made an immediate impact last season for the Lady Techsters after transferring from Tyler Junior College, earning second team All-Conference and second team NSCAA All-Central Region honors while helping the team post a 14-6-1 overall record (second most wins in program history).
After missing the first four matches of the season, she saw action in 15 games with 13 starts coming at center back, totaling two goals on just 10 shot attempts while also being part of seven shutouts on the back line.
Kgoale will be one of six returning starters for LA Tech looking to qualify for its fourth straight conference tournament. The Lady Techsters were picked to finish seventh (out of 14) in the preseason poll.
The team reported to fall camp on Sunday, Aug. 6 and underwent fitness testing that afternoon. It was followed by a light practice and then a full morning practice on Monday under surprisingly cool conditions.
The 2017 season gets underway on Aug. 18 at McNeese State.
