Tech Soccer Reports for 2006
RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech Lady Techster soccer team reports for duty Tuesday to begin preparing for the 2006 season as 14 returners and six freshmen join the ranks.
Head coach Jennifer Burns said she is ready to get the team working and is looking forward to getting started in her third year coaching Tech.
“I’m real excited,” Burns said. “We had a great spring, and I hope the players coming back can build on that.”
With 14 players returning from last year’s 7-10 team, Burns said she is relying on their experience to help the program grow and improve in 2006. The freshmen have been a long time coming she added and is ready to put them in uniforms.
“The returners have so much more experience, and they’re going to provide a lot of leadership,” Burns said. “Our freshmen all have been committed since last summer, so we’ve known all about them for a while now. They’re finally getting here, and I think this class is definitely a strong class.”
Before playing their season opener August 25 at Nicholls State, the Lady Techsters will have a series of two-a-days. Tech will play its home opener against Stephen F. Austin on September 1, which will be the first sporting event played on the new FieldTurf at Joe Aillet Stadium.
This season will be Tech’s third in existence, and Burns said it could be the best one yet if her team can start strong to create a foundation.
“If we come away from Northwestern State or SFA with wins, that would be great,” Burns said. “Or if we go to the Arkansas tournament, play well and grab a win, then we will have more confidence heading into conference play.”
Tech’s first Western Athletic Conference contest will be at home October 8 against Utah State.
