RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech soccer team will play one tune-up match Tuesday before the season opener at Nicholls State on Friday. The Lady Techsters head to Grambling State for a scrimmage at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Tech head coach Jennifer Burns said her team will run a variety of systems to see where the Lady Techsters are strong and where they need improvement.
“We’re looking to try different sets so we can see where our strengths are and see what we need to work on,” Burns said. “I’m really wanting to see where we need to work so we can get ready for this weekend. I’m excited for this weekend.”
With this being the team’s only scrimmage Burns said she and assistant coach Rich Stoneman will discover things on both sides of the spectrum, which is to be expected. But she added the unexpected findings could speak more.
“We will see things we’re good at and some things we need to work on,” Burns said. “And we’ll see some things we didn’t expect. Maybe we’re a lot better in some areas than we thought we were.”
The team is looking forward to the scrimmage since the squad has not been able to practice 11-on-11 in workouts. Burns said she knows her team wants to take on some new faces.
“I’m excited for the scrimmage because we’ll get to see how we are 11-on-11,” Burns said. “The girls are excited too because they just want to play somebody besides themselves. I’m ready to see how they respond.”
