RUSTON -- The inaugural Louisiana Tech Lady Techster soccer team reported Wednesday in preparation for beginning a tough practice schedule prior to opening the season September 10 at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
The team is on campus to begin workouts tomorrow, and head coach Jennifer Soileau is excited to get the season underway with her new team.
"The kids look good," Soileau said. "They're excited to be here and get on the field. Our team has a good attitude, and tomorrow I'm going to see what they've worked on this summer."
Soileau designed the pre-season schedule to combine hard work on the field with time off the field to build team camaraderie.
"We're going to spend a lot of time together," Soileau said. "This schedule will make us work hard and set a standard while having fun. We have a good combination of transfers and young kids on this team. I expect the older players to show leadership, and I'm excited about their experience for our younger players. I want them to start depending on each other and learning one another on and off the field."
Fourteen players reported Wednesday as the morning schedule included drawing equipment and meeting with Soileau and Tech Athletic Department administrators. After more meetings during the afternoon, the Lady Techsters underwent physicals over at the Dr. William Bundrick Sports Medicine Complex.
The Lady Techsters will have a morning training session from 9-10:30 A.M. and an evening session from 6-7:30 P.M. Thursday.
