RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech soccer team will play their third match in five days when they host Louisiana College on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
The contest is the lone midweek game of the season for LA Tech (1-0-1) who is coming off the first fall weekend which resulted in a draw at Central Arkansas and a comeback victory against Troy in the home opener.
The team has already put up six goals in the first two matches combined from five different players and by a variety of ways - corner kicks, breakaways, crosses, combo passes and even the fortunate bounce from a deflection.
Going the full 110 minutes this past Friday and then playing on Sunday afternoon in the brutal heat, the Lady Techsters will almost certainly empty there bench against Louisiana College (0-0) in an attempt to get more players game time action and to keep the team healthy.
"At the start of the season you always have to manage your bench well because fitness levels are not quite where you want them to be for the squad," said head coach Kevin Sherry. "You have to be careful of not putting too much stress on their bodies with so many games and hard training sessions.
"Tuesday night will be an opportunity for those who have not had the most minutes so far to play and show what they have to offer the squad. It will be a healthy mixture of freshmen and returners to give the team a good balance and a chance of winning."
The Wildcats were picked to finish eighth in the American Southwest Conference and this will be the second meeting on the pitch between the in-state schools.
The first meeting was in 2012 when LA Tech made the short drive south to Pineville to make up for the cancellation of the season opener versus Murray State.
Admission is free to all home matches.
