DENVER -- Coming off her first shutout of the season in a Louisiana Tech 1-0 victory over Arkansas State on Sunday, Lady Techster goalkeeper Cat Buchanan was named the Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Buchanan registered four saves on 10 shots in the one-goal victory. Her goals against average now stands at an impressive 0.92. In 196 minutes of action, she has faced 21 shots and collected six saves, while allowing only two goals.
The sophomore posted a Tech single-season record five shutouts in her first season. Two of the shutouts came in just the second week of competition as she held Texas Woman's University and Stephen F. Austin scoreless. Following her two wins and two shutouts during the week, she was awarded her first WAC Defensive Player of the Week award.
Last week, Olivia Lukasewich was named the conference's offensive player of the week. She scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to give LA Tech its first win of the year. The win also marked Tech's inaugural win at the Lady Techster Soccer Field.
Along with Buchanan, Utah State junior Lauren Hansen was named the league's offensive player of the week. The offensive and defensive player of the week awards reflect the week of Aug. 24-30.
Louisiana Tech will host Prairie View A&M on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Lady Techster Soccer Field. For complete coverage of Lady Techster Soccer, please visit the official home of LA Tech Athletics at LATechSports.com.
