Lady Techsters head to Arkansas
RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech soccer team hits the road this weekend to play in the Lady Razorback Classic in Fayetteville, Ark. The Lady Techsters (3-1-0) take on host Arkansas at 7 p.m. Friday and Missouri State at 11 a.m. Sunday.
The team enters the contest with Arkansas following a roller-coaster week last week. The Lady Techsters tallied a 2-1 win over Stephen F. Austin in their first home match of the season, and followed with a 4-0 loss on the road to Southern Mississippi.
Tech head coach Jennifer Burns said she is looking to see her team rebound and come out with fire against Arkansas (3-1-0).
“I think our kids are over the Southern Miss weekend,” Burns said. “We had a good week of practice. They’re definitely ready to play. They’re going in with the idea it’s a winnable game. I think we can win, and we’re gonna go out and play as best we can.”
This is the first time the two teams have tangled, and Burns knows her team has to be ready to play. Burns has a background in the Southeastern Conference playing at Ole Miss and knows the level of play the SEC brings.
“They bring a lot of experience to the table. They play in a conference where four or five of the teams they have to play are ranked,” Burns said. “They definitely have bigger stronger athletes. They’ve played at a higher level throughout their conference, and I think our players are definitely gonna match up against them and we’ll be able to rise up to their level of play.”
After the loss to Southern Miss, Burns said her team learned an important lesson early in the season. Her team has taken that lesson and built on it with this week’s preparation. She said her players were disappointed in the way they played on the road last week and know they are all at fault. The Lady Techsters are coming into Friday’s match ready to play well and get back on the winning track.
“I think we’re ready to go,” Burns said. “This weekend’s definitely gonna be a test for us, but I think we can come out of the weekend with a win.”
Tech will face Missouri State at 11 a.m. Sunday in its final match of the Lady Razorback Classic.
