The Lady Techster soccer team is suiting up and heading to Cajun country for its first match in program history, as Tech will face the UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns in the McAlister's Deli South Louisiana Shootout on Friday at 4 p.m.
With Tech's inaugural season on the horizon, head coach Jen Soileau and the Lady Techsters anticipate the upcoming challenge with excitement.
"This will be a tough opening game for us," Soileau said. "But it'll show us what we're made of and show the girls how hard it is to compete in Division I soccer. These two games this weekend will be important for our girls to finally understand why coach (Rich) Stoneman and I are pushing them so hard in practice and stressing the little things."
The Cajuns (1-2-1) are led by freshman goalkeeper Kristen Malen, who has allowed only 0.91 goals per game while stopping 22 opposing shots in her three starts. However, Lafayette has provided little offense to support Malen as the Cajuns have been shut out in three of four matches. The Cajuns only win came in a 4-1 victory over McNeese State University, whom Tech will play Sunday.
After the Lady Techsters match-up at McNeese on Sunday at 2 p.m., Tech will come home for its home-opener against Northwestern State University. The contest will be played at the Lady Techster Soccer Field on September 14 at 4 p.m.
