LA Tech Faces LSUA, UTSA at Home
Sept. 14, 2017
RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech women’s soccer team will both finish non-conference play and begin conference play in the same weekend at home.
First up is a 6 p.m. kickoff versus LSU-Alexandria on Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. tilt against UTSA on Sunday with both matches taking place at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
LA Tech (6-1-2) will wrap up its 10-game non-conference slate, looking for momentum going into Conference USA action for the fifth year.
The Lady Techsters have qualified for the league tournament each of the last three seasons. They are one of only four teams – along with Rice, North Texas and WKU – to do so.
They will need to improve upon their last performance which went down to the wire against crosstown foe Grambling State. After GSU came back to tie the match, LA Tech ultimately escaped with a 3-2 overtime victory thanks to a golden goal from senior Nomvula Kgoale.
She became the fourth Lady Techster to notch multiple goals this season, the other three being junior Mylene Roy-Ouellet with a team-high five, sophomore Jenna Dages with three and freshman Elizabeth Doll with two.
Even though it marked the first time this season LA Tech has surrendered multiple goals in a single game, the defense is still averaging a solid 0.67 goals allowed per game average.
The first opponent of the weekend, LSU-Alexandria (3-1-1), has dominated its opposition so far this year, outscoring them 17-2. In their last match against Bacone College, LSUA registered eight goals in an 8-1 victory.
Friday will be the first ever meeting between LA Tech and LSUA on the pitch. On the other hand, Sunday will be the fifth meeting versus league foe UTSA who comes into Ruston on a six-match losing streak.
After defeating Abilene Christian in the season opener, the Roadrunners have fallen to the likes of TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Colorado (two of which were nationally ranked). Freshman forward Ellis Patterson has registered three of the team’s four goals.
These two teams faced off for the first time in 2012 as conference foes in the WAC. They have faced one another three times since then as conference foes in C-USA. Last season, LA Tech won 3-0 in San Antonio.
Friday’s match is Organization and Club Sport Night where there will be free pizza and LA Tech shirts given away. There will also be a poster creation station and post-game autographs.
Sunday is Kid’s Club Day. One dollar candy will be available at concessions and there will be a post-game clinic.
Admission is free to all home matches. For those unable to attend, the match will be streamed live on CUSA.TV ($). Fans can also follow @LATechSOC on Twitter for live in-game updates.
