RUSTON - After spending the last seven matches away from home, the Louisiana Tech soccer team happily returns to the Lady Techster Soccer Complex to host Southern on Sunday at 1 p.m.

LA Tech (4-4-1), winners of three of its last four, looks to keep its momentum going as they enter the final weekend of nonconference play in the regular season.

"It is such a relief to be playing at home," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "It has been a very hard slog and I don't think many people truly understand how tough it is to play college sports on the road. The hard road schedule has helped toughen this young team up and brought them closer together which is important. I hope the players celebrate playing at home and do themselves and the school proud on Sunday."

Lady Techsters Roll Past Southern on Sunday
In just over a span of 11 minutes on Sunday, Louisiana Tech scored four goals, two by Kiva Gresham and two by Abbie Lever, before the team added two more as they defeated Southern 6-0 in front of 126 fans at the Lady Techster Soccer Field.

The Techsters are coming off a road weekend sweep with shutout wins over UALR (2-0) and Grambling (6-0).

With the season almost at the halfway point, the lineup comprised of mostly freshmen has become more and more comfortable while also limiting individual mistakes.

"The freshmen are nowhere near their potential yet, but we are climbing that summit one small step at a time," Sherry said. "You can see the players starting to understand the difference between high school and adult college soccer."

Leading the way for LA Tech in goals is a trio of freshman in Kathryn Sloan (four), Kailee Hervey (three) and Hannah Dauzat (two). Sophomore Brittany Beddow also has two goals on the season.

Southern (1-5-1) enters the contest having recently notched its first win of the season at Louisiana College.

The Lady Jaguars have struggled to find the net this season having only scored five goals in seven matches. Two of those goals belong to forward Kasey Gamble.

Sunday's match will be the third meeting between LA Tech and Southern. The two teams faced off in a home-and-home series in 2008 and 2009 with the Lady Techsters registering two shutout performances.

In the 2009 match, LA Tech scored a 6-0 victory with all six goals coming in the second period which currently ties for the second most second half goals in program history. Assistant coach Kiva Gresham recorded two goals and two assists in that game.

Admission is free to all home soccer matches.
