RUSTON - Louisiana Tech wraps up its first conference road weekend on Sunday when they face off against North Texas at 1 p.m. at Mean Green Soccer Stadium.
LA Tech (5-5-1) took part in their first ever Conference USA match this past Friday, dropping a 3-0 loss at Tulsa.
The defense will have to correct the miscues they made against the Golden Hurricane in order to come away with a win versus North Texas (6-3-1), another tall task given that the Mean Green has advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times since 2004 including last season.
It was night and day between the first and second periods against Tulsa. Mental mistakes by the backline in the first period resulted in two goals by the opposition, and the offense was only able to muster one shot.
The second period the team settled in and had more scoring opportunities.
This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. North Texas is coming off a 1-1 draw with Southern Miss to open C-USA play themselves.
The Mean Green controlled possession and out-shot the Golden Eagles, 30-10, but USM clawed its way to a tie
North Texas has received votes for the Top 25 multiple times this season and has consistently been ranked in the central region of the NSCAA/Continental Tire rankings. Right now they sit at No. 5, one spot ahead of LA Tech´s previous opponent Tulsa.
The Mean Green is led by forward Rachel Holden who comes in with a remarkable 10 goals scored.
