Tech’s offense rolled today in Hattiesburg, Miss., against William Carey with four goals in the first half and four goals in the second half.
The win came after two games were cancelled due to hurricane conditions from Hurricane Rita.
“I think the break was good for us,” head coach Jen Soileau said of her team’s performance. “We had the chance to work on some things that went wrong at Stephen F. Austin, and we were able to get some injuries recovered.”
Emily Cleaveland scored for the Techsters first near the 25-minute mark, while Kodi Bethay followed with another Tech goal less than three minutes later. Kathleen McCullough followed with a goal at the 17-minute mark off an assist by Denise Wilson, while the fourth goal of the first half came with 1:30 left by Katy Garrison.
The second half saw no change as Tech’s offensive onslaught continued with a Cleaveland-assisted goal from Katherine Peters at 37:50. Savanna Russo followed with a pair of goals within five minutes of each other; the former being a blast from 40 yards away.
“The quality of goals was the best we’ve seen this season,” Soileau said. “Russo’s strike from 40-yards out was absolutely amazing.”
Denise Wilson added a goal of her own near the 17-minute mark, and the Techsters sealed the deal to go to 6-3 so far on the season.
The Techsters return home to face the Nicholls State Lady Colonels Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
“We’re looking forward to Sunday to face a much tougher Nicholls State team,” Soileau said. “We’re still trying different things out to get the perfect fit before conference.”
