LA Tech Heads to Miami to Face FIU
Oct. 4, 2017
RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech women’s soccer team will make its second straight long trip in Conference USA action, flying to the Sunshine State to take on the FIU Panthers on Thursday night at 6 p.m. CT at the FIU Soccer Stadium.
The match will mark the midway point of league action. Through four games, LA Tech (8-2-4, 1-1-2 C-USA) has produced one victory and two draws, giving them five points which puts them in eighth place in the conference standings currently.
The Lady Techsters have only lost one time since late August, a run that stayed in tack after a 2-2 tie with Marshall this past week in West Virginia.
Sophomore forward Jenna Dages netted her sixth goal of the season which was also her third in C-USA play, the most on the team and tied for the fifth most by a league player.
Also scoring what would be the equalizer in the second half was defender Au’Dresha Spates which was her first goal of the season.
Defenders Makenna Johnson and Elizabeth Doll played all 110 minutes of the double overtime match with the Herd. The freshman Doll has played all 400 minutes of league action while Johnson has played all but three minutes on the back line.
FIU (1-7, 0-3 C-USA), under first-year head coach Sharolta Nonen, has registered only one win this season which came in its final non-conference game versus Jacksonville (had two matches canceled due to hurricane Irma).
The Panthers were close to getting their first league win this past weekend against the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee, but ended up losing 2-1 in overtime.
FIU has scored three total goals this season. Courtney Phillips has one of those goals and leads the team with 12 shots taken. Nevena Stojakovic has gotten all eight starts in net.
LA Tech trails in the all-time series against FIU, 2-1. The Panthers claimed wins in the first two meetings, but the Lady Techsters came away with a 2-0 shutout victory last season in Ruston.
This will be LA Tech’s third trip to Miami. They went twice in 2015, once to play FIU during the regular season and then again during postseason play in the C-USA Tournament.
The match will be streamed live on CUSA.TV ($). Fans can also follow @LATechSOC on Twitter for live in-game updates.
