Lady Techsters Begin Conference Play with Boise State

RUSTON, La. – Following a much-needed nine-day break, the Lady Techster soccer team kicks off Western Athletic Conference action and Homecoming weekend with a 7 p.m. match against Boise State on Friday.

Louisiana Tech (2-8-0), still looking for the program’s initial victory in WAC play, has played its best soccer of the season the last three weeks at home, a loss to Grambling in its last game notwithstanding. In the two games prior to the GSU match, the Lady Techsters had amassed six goals and two shutout victories over in-state competition.

Tech will look once again to its freshmen as first-year players have accounted for seven of the team’s eight goals on the season. Forward Kiva Gresham (Albuquerque, N.M.) has led the charge with four scores and an assist, ranking her in the Top 10 in the conference.

Boise State (4-5-2) has been an offensive juggernaut thus far, and their single-game high of nine against Southern Utah ranks tied for sixth in the NCAA. Freshman Shannon Saxton also ranks sixth overall in the country in points per game (2.36). In single-game highs, Saxton is also tied atop the national rankings in goals (4) and points (9). Saxton, a native of Beaverton, Ore., leads the conference in nearly every offensive category and has been named WAC Player of the Week twice this season.

Admission is free to all Lady Techster home soccer matches, and concessions will be available under the west stands. A free, live webcast of all home matches is available by logging on to LaTechTV.com, and live stats are available through latechsports.com.
