Sloan Scores 11 Seconds into Match to Propel LA Tech to 2-0 Win
The earliest a goal had ever been scored by a Louisiana Tech player was 41 seconds. That record was broken on Sunday evening when freshman forward Kathryn Sloan netted a goal just 11 seconds into the match to propel the Lady Techsters to a 2-0 win over Southern Miss at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.

RUSTON - Louisiana Tech will be hitting the road for the final time this regular season in an important conference showdown with Southern Miss on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.

It marks the first time since early September that LA Tech (10-5-1, 2-4 C-USA) will face only one opponent on the weekend.

The timing comes perfectly as the Lady Techsters are coming off their longest road trip of the year when they faced Charlotte and Old Dominion.

"It will be a very tough game as getting anything on the road is extremely difficult," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "The extra days rest this week has been helpful because the team was pretty beaten up coming home from last weekend."

With only four games remaining, everyone is getting more and more magnified.

After a critical victory over ODU last Sunday, LA Tech sits tied for ninth place with six points, just one point shy of that top-8 spot which is needed to make the C-USA Tournament.

"The team has given everything in every game they have played in so far and it is starting to take its toll physically," Sherry said. "However, I am confident that we can gather ourselves to muster one last charge down the stretch."

One key component will certainly be the play of Kathryn Sloan who leads the team and C-USA in goals scored with 10. The sophomore became just the third Lady Techster to record double-digit goals in a single season.

"We have been looking for a double figure goal scorer since Kiva Gresham graduated so it is with some relief that we now have one," Sherry said. "Katie's goals could prove to be important when all is said and done."

Saturday's game will be the fourth straight season LA Tech and Southern Miss meet on the pitch and the fifth time overall. The Techsters have won the past two meetings giving them an edge in the series.

The Golden Eagles are still in search for their first victory in the league having registered two draws which came against UAB and Middle Tennessee. Most recently, they suffered two road losses by just a one goal margin.
