Lady Techsters Looking for Win on Parents’ Weekend
RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech soccer team is back in Ruston for its final two home matches of the season. After two road losses at Hawaii and San Jose State, the Lady Techsters are glad to be back in Joe Aillet Stadium and ready for the action against Fresno State at 7 p.m. Friday.
Tech coach Jen Burns said her team is glad the long road trip is over and there could be some added incentive to get the school’s first win in conference play this weekend.
“That last road trip was pretty long and tiring. I think they’re happy to be home and happy not to have to travel another weekend in a row,” Burns said. “It’s Parents’ Weekend for us, and I know they’re excited. They’re going to have a lot of family and friends in town. Hopefully, we can make something happen in front of a good crowd.”
Fresno State comes to Ruston undefeated in WAC play and just one point behind San Jose State for the conference lead. The Bulldogs (9-5-1, 3-0-0) have been able to shutdown opponents this season with all nine wins coming in shutouts.
To come up with a win against Fresno State, Tech (4-7-2, 0-3-0) must refrain from making similar mistakes it made against San Jose State.
“We’ve got to put it behind us. That’s not our team,” Burns said. “It’s not like us to give up five goals to a team in one half. I think what we do have to realize is we have to change some of the things we’re doing. We’re making the same mistakes over and over, and if we don’t change what we’re doing we’re going to constantly get the same result.”
With this weekend serving as Tech’s final homestand of the season, the Lady Techsters could reach their next milestone at home. Burns, however, said her players just want to get a win in WAC play. It doesn’t matter where.
“I don’t think they care where it is, honestly. These kids are recruited from high-level teams and they’re sick of losing, and so are we as a staff,” Burns said. “We’ve got some very talented soccer players and we’ve got some hard workers. I think there’s a bright future ahead of this group.”
After their match with Fresno State, the Lady Techsters will play host to Nevada at noon Sunday. Both matches can be seen on WAC.tv for $5.95. For more information on viewing the game via WAC.tv on the Internet visit www.wac.tv.
