Techsters Take on Vandals
RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech soccer team enters the final weekend of the season looking for its first conference win and to qualify for the WAC Tournament.
The Lady Techsters (4-9-2, 0-5 WAC) are still alive in the hunt for the conference tournament. Tech travels to Idaho and Boise State this weekend, starting with Idaho at 5 p.m.
The Vandals (0-16, 0-4-1) enter the match after earning a tie with Boise State last weekend. Idaho is winless on the season after playing a nonconference schedule with a number of strong West Coast teams, including two Pac 10 schools.
Tech is looking to bounce back after a 7-0 loss to Nevada in its final home match of the season, and Idaho ranks last in nearly every statistic in the WAC. The Vandals have scored five goals this season and been shutout 13 times.
Two slots still remain open in the WAC Tournament, and one of them could be for Tech if the cards fall correctly. To reach the tournament, the Lady Techsters first must defeat Idaho. A loss or draw to the Vandals would eliminate Tech from contention.
Tech also needs help from Utah State on Friday, who hosts Boise State. Boise must lose or tie with the Aggies to keep Tech alive. If this happens, along with a win over Idaho, Tech will be playing Boise State for the final spot in the tournament Sunday, Hawaii would get the No. 5 seed.
