Nine Seniors to Play Final Home Game on Friday
Oct. 26, 2017
RUSTON – The largest senior class in Louisiana Tech women’s soccer history will play their final game at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex on Friday night when they take on Southern Miss at 7 p.m. in the regular season finale.
The nine seniors – Faith Washington, Kailee Hervey, Monica Gebler, Lisanne Kleygrewe, Au’Dresha Spates, Haley Laque, Olivia Millington, Hannah McStay-Fenn and Nomvula Kgoale – have helped LA Tech qualify for the Conference USA Tournament each of the last four years while also registering four straight double-digit win seasons.
They will be honored as part of Senior Night in a post-game ceremony, but before that, they will put their seven-match unbeaten streak on the line in the regular season finale.
The Lady Techsters are one of four teams to already clinch a spot in the C-USA Tournament which gets underway on Nov. 1 in Boca Raton, Florida. Pending the results of the last weekend of league games, the team can finish anywhere from second to fifth in the standings.
LA Tech (12-2-5, 5-1-3 C-USA) was able to qualify after picking up two crucial road victories last week against Middle Tennessee (3-2) and UAB (1-0).
Sophomore Jenna Dages scored an equalizer against the Blue Raiders to help produce a second-half comeback. She also had the game-winning goal versus the Blazers, giving her 10 goals on the season which is a team-high and the third most in the conference.
From a defensive standpoint, defensive player of the week Monica Gebler helped the backline register its sixth shutout of the season. She also provided the assist against UAB which was her sixth of the year, the most on the team.
The opponent, Southern Miss (6-8-3, 0-6-3 C-USA), had a very productive non-conference where it collected six victories. However, they have yet to find the win column during C-USA action, suffering six losses and registering three draws.
Ola Akinniyi and Becky McMullan lead the way offensively for the Golden Eagles with 13 points apiece. Akinniyi paces the team with six goals scored.
In net, Kelly Brahmbhatt has made 14 appearances with 10 starts. She has 60 total saves and a record of 6-3-3.
LA Tech leads in the all-time series with USM, 4-1-2. The Golden Eagles won the first ever meeting, but the Lady Techsters have been undefeated ever since.
This will mark the seventh straight year the two teams meet up on the pitch. LA Tech has not allowed a single goal in the last four meetings, including last year’s 3-0 shutout in Hattiesburg.
Along with it being Senior Night it is also Greek Night and Residential Life Night. There will be free t-shirts and pizza. Burgers and hotdogs will also be served as part of a student tailgate.
Admission is free to all home matches. For those unable to attend, the match will be streamed live on CUSA.TV ($). Fans can also follow @LATechSOC on Twitter for live in-game updates.
