Lady Techsters Tie with Idaho
MOSCOW, Idaho – The Louisiana Tech soccer team reached another milestone in its short history at Idaho on Friday evening with a draw against the Vandals.
The 1-1 double-overtime draw marked the first non-loss for the Lady Techsters in Western Athletic competition. Prior to Friday’s match, Tech (4-9-3, 0-5-1 WAC) had lost all seven WAC games last season and the previous five this year.
Tech coach Jen Burns said it was a step in the right direction for her program and is hoping to use it as a stepping stone for Sunday’s match with Boise State.
“I think it was very positive step. It was a little bit of a disappointment in a match we could have won, but we came from behind and scored and able to hold them off,” Burns said. “Overall, it was pretty positive and we’re looking to build on it on Sunday.”
Burns said she was particularly proud of how her team fought back against Idaho (0-16-2, 0-4-2).
The Vandals scored early with a goal by Eija Hodgin in the 13th minute of the contest assisted by Morgan Bundy. Tech was able to keep them at bay with freshman goal keeper Jill Medigovich registering seven saves in the match for the Techsters.
Tech’s defense locked in during the second half and limited Idaho to four shots in the second half before allowing the Vandals to get four off in the second overtime. Medigovich saved the only shot on goal during overtime to preserve the tie.
With just under 30 minutes remaining in the second half Amy Wolsted scored her first goal of the season with an assist from Savanna Russo to knot the score. Idaho out shot Tech 17-11
The draw eliminates Tech from the conference tournament next weekend. The Techsters finish their season at Boise State at 3 p.m. Sunday.
