No. 4 LA Tech and No. 5 ODU Square Off in C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals
Oct. 31, 2017
RUSTON -- The Louisiana Tech women's soccer team had arguably its greatest regular season in program history.
Now the Lady Techsters have to shift their focus to postseason play which gets underway on Wednesday against Old Dominion in the C-USA Tournament quarterfinals at 12:30 p.m. CT at FAU Soccer Stadium.
LA Tech (13-2-5, 6-1-3 C-USA), who is one of only three teams to qualify for the league tourney each of the last four years, went through the non-conference slate with only one loss and mirrored that performance in conference play. The two regular season losses are the fewest in program history.
Racking up 21 total points to claim the No. 4 seed and being in the loss column just once were also program records. The Lady Techsters have lost once in the last two months and are currently on an eight-game unbeaten streak.
"We are very proud to have qualified for the fourth straight year, but we know we have a very tough challenge ahead of us," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "We know what is coming, a physical and aggressive approach. We have to be mentally tough to stand up to the upcoming onslaught.
"We are not looking past this first game and remain focused on living in the moment. We learned a lot from our game with ODU during the season and we hope to make a few adjustments so we can be as best prepared as we can be."
The opponent, No. 5 seed Old Dominion (9-4-4, 6-2-2 C-USA), finished the season strong with impressive home victories over North Texas and Charlotte.
Much of the Monarchs scoring is done by committee as five different players have scored at least three goals this season. They are led by Jackie Stroud and Iris Achterhof though who have combined for 28 points on nine goals and 10 assists.
In net is Krista Moisio who has started every game, registering a 1.32 goals against average to go along with four shutouts.
These two teams slugged it out in a 1-1 tie earlier this season in Ruston. The match had a combined 36 fouls, seven yellow cards and two red cards. The Lady Techsters lead the all-time series with the Monarchs, 2-1-1.
