Lady Techsters Close Out Season at Utah State

LOGAN, Utah – The Louisiana Tech soccer team will play its final game of the 2007 season on Saturday as they face Utah State on the road. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CST at the Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field on the USU campus.

The Lady Techsters (2-13-1, 0-5-1 WAC) could still play the role of spoiler for Utah State. A Tech victory would ensure that Utah State would finish no higher than fourth in the conference; however, an Aggie win coupled with a combination of losses/ties from other conference opponents could boost Utah State to the top seed in the WAC Tournament. While Tech has been eliminated from conference tournament contention, the Techsters could finish the season on a high note by claiming their first-ever conference victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tara Gavlak enters the weekend as the league leader in saves in conference games with 31 stops in six WAC matches. Senior Candace Novak will play her final game in a Tech uniform on Saturday.

In the last meeting between the schools, Denise Wilson scored the first conference goal in Tech history but the Techsters fell short in a 2-1 loss in Ruston last season.

Utah State (8-10-0, 4-2-0 WAC) picked up two huge wins last weekend, the first coming against then-WAC leader Hawaii, 3-2, on Friday night. The Aggies then dispatched San Jose State on Sunday by a 4-0 count. USU is led by freshman forward Lauren Hansen, whose six goals on the season rank her tied for fifth in the conference, and senior Dana Peart, who also has 12 points on five goals and a pair of assists.
