RUSTON - In what was a very successful year for Louisiana Tech on the soccer field, finishing with a 12-5-4 overall record that included an 11-game unbeaten streak and a berth into the WAC Tournament, it was equally as successful for the Lady Techsters in the classroom.
A total of 723 college soccer teams (221 men, 502 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic school year and LA Tech was one of those schools, posting an astounding cumulative GPA of 3.57.
Of the 502 women's soccer programs, head coach Kevin Sherry's squad was ranked No. 13 for the highest average GPA and only six Division I teams held a higher GPA.
"I am very proud of our team for this achievement," said Sherry. "It not very often you have a competitive college team who are both successful on the field and in the classroom. To have one of the highest average GPA's in the nation is astounding and something Tech should be proud of. The ladies deserve all the credit."
