Kgoale, Laque Selected to Scholar All-South Region Team

Dec. 13, 2017

RUSTON -- Over a month after earning academic honors from Conference USA, the Louisiana Tech senior duo of Nomvula Kgoale and Haley Laque received another academic award as they were both selected to the 2017 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-South Region Team.

LA Tech was one of five C-USA programs to have players chosen to an all-region team and one of only two to have multiple players selected. Kgoale and Laque made up two of the three in-state players as well.

Kgoale, a versatile midfielder from Polokwane, South Africa, has a 3.53 cumulative GPA in Sociology and was named to the second team.

On the pitch, the First Team All-Conference USA and All-Tournament Team selection played in 19 games with 17 starts, totaling 15 points on the season on six goals and three assists. Of the six goals, three of them proved to be game-winners.

She registered the equalizing goal and assisted on the game-winning goal to help the Lady Techsters overcome a one-goal deficit in the second half and advance to the C-USA Tournament semifinals for just the second time in program history.

Laque, a four-year defender from Lafayette, boasts a 3.81 cumulative GPA in Kinesiology and Health Promotions and was named to the third team.

The Second Team All-Conference USA honoree was an anchor on the LA Tech back line for the past four years. She finished her career with 85 games played, a program record, and a total of 5,831 career minutes which ranks sixth in program history.

This season, Laque played in all 22 matches while making 21 starts and being part of six shutouts. She went the distance in 14 matches, five of which were the full 110 minutes of double overtime. Both of her goals this year came on converted penalty kicks, giving her a program-record six PKs for her career.
