LA Tech 11, Alcorn State 2 (5 innings)

Louisiana Tech pounded out 13 hits, including five extra base hits, as the Lady Techsters routed Alcorn State 11-2 in five innings.

Anna Cross and Pauline Tufi were both 2-of-3 at the plate with four RBI while Tori Charters recorded a career-high three hits in the victory.

Tech jumped out to a four-run first inning lead against the Lady Braves, who had defeated ULM 4-3 on Friday night. Tufi started the scoring with an RBI single, scoring Kristen Miles who had reached on an error. After Bianca Duran walked, Hailey Winter singled through the right side to make the score 2-0. Cross then followed with an RBI double down the left field line and Courtney Lowe plated the final run with a sacrifice fly to center.

While Duran was retiring all nine batters she faced in the circle, the Tech offense continued to plate runs. Tufi drove home two more runs in the top of the second inning with a double, scoring Miles and Charters who both reached on infield singles.

Leading 6-0 in the top of the third, Lowe singled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Miles. Tufi then drove home Charters with the eighth run of the game - the second of the inning - with a ground ball out to third base as Tech led 8-0.

Cross put the finishing touches on Alcorn State in the top of the fourth inning with a three-run blast deep over the left field fence, scoring Duran - who had doubled - and Taylor Penn who reached on an error.

Tufi came on in relief of Duran in the fourth and surrendered two runs on a two-out double to deep left field as Alcorn State cut the deficit to 11-2.

Duran (5-6) picked up the win, striking out four in her 3.0 innings of work. She also added two doubles and two runs at the plate. Miles (1 hit, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Winter (1 hit, 1 run, 1 RBI), Lowe (1 hit, 1 run, 1 RBI) and Katelynn Hill (1 hit) all contributed at the plate.

LA Tech 10, Southern 1

Tufi and Cross ignited a six-run third inning as Louisiana Tech defeated Southern 10-1 in the second game of the afternoon.

With the two teams scoreless heading into the top of the third inning, Tufi doubled to right center field, scoring Miles and Erin Kipp to make the score 2-0. Duran then followed with an RBI single down the right field line, scoring Tufi. Following a walk by Winter, Cross launched her second home run of the day, a three-run shot to left centerfield and the Techsters led 6-0.

Tech added a single run in the fourth frame. Miles doubled to left field with one out and then scored on Erin Kipp's single up the middle.

Just like the first game of the day, Duran worked a perfect first three innings. However, in the fourth she surrendered an infield single and walk before Tufi came on in relief to get out of the frame.

After Southern plate a run in the bottom of the sixth inning against Tufi, Tech responded with three more runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Tufi and Duran led the frame off with back-to-back singles and then Winter doubled to right center, scoring Tufi. Cross then drove home her fourth run of the game - and eighth of the day - with an RBI ground out to make the score 9-1. Taylor Penn then recorded her first collegiate RBI with a sacrifice fly out to left field.

Duran (5-6) picked up the win, allowing only one hit and one walk in 3.1 innings of action. Tufi allowed one run on three hits in 2.2 innings. Cross struck out all three batters she faced in the seventh.

Cross (1-3, 1 run, 4 RBI), Tufi (2-4, 1 run, 2 RBI), Erin Kipp (2-4, 1 run, 1 RBI), Miles (1-4, 2 runs), Duran (2-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Winter (2-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Katelynn Cook (1-2), and Lindsey Neyland (1 run) led Tech offensively.
