@LATechSB Sweeps Home Debut

RUSTON, La. – Preslee Gallaway and Jensen Howell both provided complete game performances in the circle and Taria Page drove home six runs to lead Louisiana Tech to a pair of wins in the first day of the Lady Techster Invitational Friday.
Tech (7-7) defeated South Dakota 9-1 in five innings in the first game of the day and then handed Saint Louis a 5-1 loss in the evening. The Lady Techsters are scheduled to face UMass Lowell Saturday at 9 a.m. and Missouri State at 5 p.m.
Game 1: LA Tech 9, South Dakota 1 (5 innings)
Taria Page drove in six runs, including four on a grand slam home run in the third inning, to lead Louisiana Tech to a 9-1 run-rule victory over South Dakota in the first game of the day.
LA Tech took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Sloane Stewartson singled and then pinch runner Emily Daniels stole second base. Ali Galaz then single sharply to left field and a pair of errors by the Coyotes defense on the play allowed Daniel to score and Galaz to advance to third. Marilyn Rizzato then drove Galaz home with an RBI single to put Tech ahead 2-0.
After a shut-down inning in the circle by Lady Techster starter Jensen Howell in the third, Tech struck again. Jazlyn Crowder, Morgan Turkoly and Katie Smith all recorded back-to-back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the third and Page launched the first pitch she saw deep over the left field wall for her first home run of the season. Tech led 6-0.
South Dakota (1-11) got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run from left fielder Christy Warnock, cutting the Tech lead to 6-1.
Page struck again in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run single to centerfield, plating Crowder and Turkoly and upping its advantage to 8-1.
Tech ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Pinch hitter Addison Roark doubled to left field to start the frame and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kimmie Atienza. Bayli Simon then hit a ground ball to shortstop that was thrown away allowing the final run to cross the plate.
Jensen (3-1) picked up the win, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts in 5.0 innings of action.
Offensively, Tech was led by Page (2-3, HR, run, 6 RBI), Crowder (2-3, 2 runs, SB), Turkoly (1-2, 2 runs), Smith (1-2, 1 run), Stewartson (2-2), Daniel (run, SB), Galaz (1-3, run), Rizzato (1-2, RBI) and Roark (1-1, run).
Game 2: LA Tech 5, Saint Louis 1
Preslee Gallaway struck out six and allowed only four singles in tossing the complete-game victory in a 5-1 win over Saint Louis.
Tech took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after Jazlyn Crowder and Katie Smith both singled to put runners on the corners with one out. Crowder then scored on a successful double steal while Smith advanced to second. With two outs, Sloane Stewartson drove home Smith with the second run of the inning on a sharp single to right field. Tech led 2-0.
Saint Louis answered in the top of the second inning on a two-out RB single off of Gallaway, cutting the Techster advantage in half.
The Techsters added to their lead, plating three more runs in the second inning. Ali Galaz and Bayli Simon both singled to lead off the frame and then advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Karlee Jensen. After Jazlyn Crowder walked to load the bases, Galaz scored on a sacrifice fly by Morgan Turkoly to left field upping the Tech lead to 3-1.
With two outs and runners on second and third, Smith doubled to right field, plating the final two runs of the game for Tech.
Although Tech didn’t muster much offense over its final four at bats, Gallaway and the Tech defense kept the Billikens at bay.
Gallaway (3-2) picked up the win, allowing just one run on four hits and one walk while striking out six in 7.0 innings of action.
Offensively, Tech was led by Smith (2-3, run, 2 RBI, SB), Crowder (1-3, 2 runs, 2 SB), Turkoly (RBI), Stewartson (1-2, RBI), Kimmie Atienza (1-1, SB), Galaz (1-2, run), Simon (1-2, run, SB) and Emily Daniel (SB).
