HAMMOND -- Amberly Waits hit a two-run home run and Meghan Krieg pitched her fifth shutout of the season as Louisiana Tech downed Southeastern Louisiana 2-0 at North Oak Park Wednesday afternoon in the first game of a softball doubleheader.
With the win Tech (9-8) recorded its seventh shutout of the young season with five of those being hurled by Krieg, the sophomore sensation from Sonora, Texas.
Waits provided the firepower for the win, blasting a two-run home run over the right field fence with two outs in the top of the third inning. It was Waits second home run of the season and the 11th of her career.
Krieg made the two runs hold up, pitching a no-hitter into the bottom of the sixth inning before Lion centerfield Jordan Long broke it up with an infield single to third base. However, Krieg retired the final two batters of the frame to preserve the lead.
Southeastern Louisiana (7-8) put the tying two runs on base in the bottom of the seventh inning with an infield single by Heather Sherrill and a walk but Krieg struck out Lauren Coniglio for the final out of the game.
Krieg (6-1) allowed just two infield hits and four walks while striking out nine in the complete-game performance.
Catherine Gunther (1-4) picked up the loss despite pitching well, allowing only two runs on six hits and two walks in 7.0 innings of action.
