NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Louisiana Tech allowed only one unearned run but it proved costly as the Lady Techsters fell 1-0 Wednesday afternoon to Stephen F. Austin in a pitcher's duel at SFA Softball Complex.

Stephen F. Austin (6-13) scored the lone run of the game with two outs in the bottom of the second inning after Ladyjacks second baseman Lindsay Campbell reached on a fielding error by the LA Tech infield and scored on a two-out infield single by left fielder Alisa Hamilton off of Michelle Jones.

With the exception of the first inning, LA Tech (9-10) had runners on base in every inning but was never able to cross home plate against SFA starter Angela White, who scattered five hits and one walk while striking out eight in the complete-game performance.

The Lady Techsters best scoring opportunity came in the top of the sixth frame when Kristen Miles singled to left field with one out and then stole second base. With two outs and Miles on second, Melanie Goff singled to centerfield where SFA centerfielder Bethany Brown fielded the ball on one hop and made a perfect throw home where Miles was called out and a bang-bang play at the plate for the final out of the inning.

Tech also got runners in scoring position in both the top of the third and fifth innings but White was able to get out of the frames without allowing the run-scoring hits.

Jones, Janna Frandrup and Goff combined to allow only the one unearned run on six hits and four walks and pitched out of numerous jams to keep the Lady Techsters in the game.

In the bottom of the third, SFA drew a leadoff walk and then followed with a double off the top of the left field wall by Elizabeth Arana. However, Jones settled down and induced back-to-back infield popups and a foul out to left field to end the threat.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, SFA loaded the bases with only one out before Frandrup inducted a ground ball out for a force at home and a fly out to left field as the Lady Techsters once again doused the Ladyjacks threat.

Jones (6-5) took the loss, allowing one unearned run on four hits and three walks while striking out two in 3.1 innings of action. Frandrup worked 2.0 innings, allowing only two hits and one walk while Goff recorded the final two outs of the game.

Tech had five hits in the game, including singles by Amanda Krueger (SB), Miles (SB), Erin Kipp, Goff and Meghan Knowles (walk).

The Lady Techsters will return to action this weekend when they travel to Baton Rouge to face Southern in a three-game series starting Saturday at 12 p.m.
