WACO - For the second time in three days, Louisiana Tech fell to a Top 20 ranked team as No. 12 Baylor downed the Lady Techsters 10-1 in five innings Thursday night.
Against the hot hitting Bears (17-4), Tech (8-12) didn't help itself, committing three errors and misplaying a number of other balls as Baylor scored multiple runs in each of the first three innings to pull away for the win.
Bears starter Whitney Canion kept Tech in check at the plate, allowing only two hits and one walk while striking out eight in 4.0 innings of action.
Tech junior outfielder Janine Godwin plated the only run of the day for the Lady Techsters, launching her first collegiate home run over the right field wall in the top of the fifth inning against Baylor reliever Liz Paul.
Anna Cross (0-3) took the loss in the circle, allowing six runs on six hits in 1.1 innings of action. Pauline Tufi came on in relief in the second inning and allowed four runs on four hits in 2.2 innings of work.
Baylor plated two runs in the first, four in the second and four in the third to build the 10-0 lead before Godwin's line drive home run with one out in the fifth.
Tech opens Conference USA action Saturday in San Antonio with a doubleheader against UTSA at 1 p.m.
