BATON ROUGE, La. - Alayna Kipp and Melanie Goff each drove home three runs and Michelle Jones and Anna Cross combined for a one-hitter to lead Louisiana Tech to a 10-2 five-inning win over Southern Sunday afternoon at the Lady Jaguar Field.
The victory by LA Tech (12-10) completed the three-game sweep over Southern on the weekend as the Lady Techsters outscored the Lady Jaguars 34-12.
Jones (8-5) picked up the win in the circle for LA Tech, allowing two runs - one earned - on one hit and one walk with three strikeouts in 4.0 innings of action. Cross pitched a scoreless fifth inning, striking out one and walking one.
Tech jumped out on top early, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning as the Lady Techsters capitalized on some wildness by the Southern starter. Amanda Krueger, Kristen Miles and Erin Kipp all drew walks to load the bases with no outs in the top of the first before Southern made a pitching change.
Melanie Goff welcomed the new Jaguar pitcher with a two-run single to right field, giving the Lady Techters a 2-0 advantage. Following a stolen base by Goff and two outs, Meghan Knowles ripped a single to centerfield, plating two more runs and upping the advantage to 4-0. Tech scored its final run of the inning when Knowles s stole home.
Southern responded with its only two runs of the game in the bottom half of the frame, capitalizing on a pair of LA Tech errors and one hit.
Tech added a single run in the top of the third inning when Alayna Kipp blasted a tape measure shot deep over the left field fence, making the score 6-2.
Tech loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning on a Krueger walk and back-to-back singles by Miles and Erin Kipp. Goff drove home the only run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to centerfield, making the score 10-2.
Offensively, Tech was led by Goff (1-3, 1 run, 3 RBI, SB), Alayna Kipp (2-4, 2 runs, 3 RBI), Frandrup (2-4, 1 RBI), Miles (2-3, 1 run), Erin Kipp (1-3, 1 run), Krueger (3 runs), Knowles (1-1, 1 run, 2 RBI) and Hale (1-1).
The Lady Techsters return to action Wednesday when they travel to face UL-Lafayette in a doubleheader at Lamson Park at 4 p.m.
