RUSTON -- Fresno State hurler Morgan Melloh pitched a complete-game shutout and Michelle Moses and Ryane Peterson homered as the 25th ranked Bulldogs defeated Louisiana Tech 7-0 Friday night at the Lady Techsters Softball Complex.

Melloh (19-12) struck out 12 batters while moving into fourth place in Western Athletic Conference history in strikeouts in only her second season in college.

She allowed only two Kylie Bassett singles -- an infield single to shortstop in the second frame and a single up the middle in the fourth.

After falling behind 1-0 on a Caitlin Stiglich two-out RBI single in the top of the third inning off Tech starter Krissi Oliver, the Lady Techsters (20-17, 4-5) threatened in the bottom of the frame as Heather Doiron and Emma Barnes drew back-to-back walks.

Danielle Sheridan then fouled off numerous pitches with a full count before Melloh caught her looking for the second out of the frame. Amberly Waits then grounded a pitch hard up the middle but Fresno State shortstop Haley Gilleland fielded it and stepped on second to end the threat.

The Bulldogs (25-16, 7-3 WAC) then plated three runs in the top of the fifth inning on a two-out RBI double by Alexis Lujan and a two-run home run by Moses which made the score 4-0.

Fresno State put the game away in the top of the sixth inning plating two more runs as Peterson led the frame off with a home run to left field.

After a Brooke Phipps bunt single, Wanda Malone came on in relief and promptly gave up Haley Perkins single and a two-run double by Gilleland as Fresno State took the 7-0 lead.

Oliver (8-12) took the loss, allowing six earned runs on nine hits and one walk in 5.1 innings of action while Malone allowed one earned run on two hits in 1.2 innings of work.

The two teams will complete the three-game series Saturday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
