RUSTON - Louisiana Tech softball will head out on the road again this weekend as Sarah Dawson and Co. travel to Hattiesburg to compete in The Gold Pub and Grill Classic hosted by Southern Mississippi on Saturday and Sunday.
The Lady Techsters are 3-6 on the season after their 4-3 loss at Central Arkansas Tuesday with four of their six losses coming against Top 25 teams.
This weekend's two-day tournament will include four games for the Lady Techsters starting with Saturday's contests against Mississippi Valley State (11:30 a.m.) and Nicholls State (4:30 p.m.). Tech will then play a pair of games on Sunday against IUPUI (8 a.m.) and Southern Miss (1 p.m.).
Janna Frandrup (.421, 10 RBI), Amanda Krueger (.360, 10 runs, 5 doubles) and Kendra Harmon (.310, 3 runs) have led Louisiana Tech offensively through the first nine games while Katelynn Hill has provided the only power with all three of the teams home runs.
In the circle, Tech continues to rely on a pitching-by-committee philosophy. Michelle Jones (3-2, 2.39 ERA), Mel Goff (0-1, 5.25 ERA) and Erin Kipp (0-2, 8.65 ERA) should all see starts this weekend while Janna Frandrup (0-1, 1.83 ERA) and Savannah Dollar could see time in relief.
Single game tickets can be purchased at the game and are also available for $8 for reserved chairback seats. General admission seats can be purchased for $6 for adults and $4 for youth, ages 3-17.
Techsters vs. Weekend Opponents
Mississippi Valley State (1-7, Southwestern Athletic Conference)
Louisiana Tech is 6-2 all-time against the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Delta Devils, including five straight wins in the series. Tech defeated Mississippi Valley State 2-0 and 7-1 last year in College Station in a weekend tournament hosted by Texas A&M. Tech's last loss to MVSU came in 2007 when the Delta Devils defeated Tech 3-2.
Nicholls State (2-8, Southland Conference)
Louisiana Tech leads the all-time series against Nicholls State 54-19. The 73-game series is the fifth longest (number of games) in Lady Techster softball history behind only UL-Monroe (98), Northwestern State (84), UL-Lafayette (76) and McNeese State (74). Tech won the last meeting between the two teams 8-0 during the 2008 season.
IUPUI (3-4, Summitt League)
Louisiana Tech has won both of the previous two meetings in this series with both games coming during the 2008 season. Tech swept a doubleheader from IUPUI 3-2 and 6-2 in Ruston with Meghan Krieg getting saves in both games.
Southern Miss (2-3, CUSA)
Louisiana Tech leads the all-time series against Southern Miss 12-10 although the Golden Eagles won the last meeting between the two teams. USM defeated LA Tech 5-4 in 2010 in Hattiesburg. Tech led that game 4-0 before USM scored five unanswered, including the tying run in the bottom of the seventh and the winning run in the bottom of the eighth. Southern Miss has the distinction of scoring the most runs ever in a game against LA Tech, plating 24 in a 24-11 win over Tech in 2007. In that game, Tech led 8-7 heading to the seventh when USM scored 17 runs on 13 hits and one error. The Lady Techsters bounced back the next day to defeat USM 1-0.
