FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Louisiana Tech will travel north to compete in the 2014 Wooo Pig Fastpich Classic hosted by the University of Arkansas as the Lady Techsters will join the 24th-ranked Razorbacks, Stephen F. Austin and Drake in the four-team event.
The tournament was originally scheduled for three days but due to the forecast for Sunday, Arkansas officials have shortened it to a two-day event which will begin Friday and conclude on Saturday.
Tech (6-8) will open play Friday at 10 a.m. against Stephen F. Austin (7-9) followed by a 12:30 p.m. contest against Drake (2-13). The Lady Techsters will then face 24th-ranked Arkansas (13-3) on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Tech will then play in either the third place game at 2:30 p.m. or the championship game at 5 p.m.
Head coach Mark Montgomery's team is coming off last weekend's 3-1 showing at the ULM Warhawk Classic as Tech posted wins over South Dakota (3-1), Alcorn State (11-2) and Southern (10-1).
Offensively, Tech boasts five regulars batting .300 or better, including freshman outfielder Tori Charters (.368, 6 runs, 2-2 SB), junior third baseman Hailey Winter (.367, 2 HR, 6 RBI), freshman utility Pauline Tufi (.341, 5 doubles, 12 RBI), junior utility Bianca Duran (.341, 4 RBI) and sophomore outfielder Kristen Miles (.300, 12 runs).
In the circle, Tech will continue to rely upon the pitcher by committee approach which includes Duran (5-6, 3.65 ERA), Tufi (1-1, 2.90 ERA) and sophomore Anna Cross (0-1, 4.88 ERA).
