DENTON - The Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters softball team will return to action this weekend when they travel to North Texas to compete in the Marriott Classic which will run Friday through Sunday at Lovelace Field and Krum High School.
LA Tech (4-12) will play five games during the tournament with two games scheduled for both Friday and Saturday and one for Sunday.
The Lady Techsters open up Friday at 12:30 p.m. against Texas-Arlington in a game at Krum High School and then face the host North Texas team at 5:30 p.m. at Lovelace Field, located on the campus of NT. Tech will return to action Saturday with a 10 a.m. game against UTEP and a 12:30 p.m. game against Ole Miss with both of those contests being played at Lovelace Field.
Tech will conclude action Sunday with a 12:30 p.m. game against Texas-Arlington at 12:30 p.m.
The Lady Techsters have dropped six games decided by one or two runs thus far this year as head coach Sarah Dawson's team looks to snap a three-game losing streak.
Offensively, Tech has struggled for consistency as the Lady Techsters are sporting a team batting average of only .213 with sophomore utility Janna Frandrup the lone player batting better than .300. Frandrup leads the team in batting average (.310), home runs (2) and RBI (9).
In addition to Frandrup, freshman outfielder Cassie Krieg (.270, 2 RBI), senior second baseman Heather Doiron (.262, 8 RBI, 4 SB), senior third baseman Molly Goza (.256, 1 HR, 9 RBI) have been the Lady Techsters most consistent offensive threats.
In the circle, Tech will continue to rely on the arm of senior ace Meghan Krieg (1-6, 4.77 ERA), who has recorded 42 strikeouts in 44.0 innings of action. Sophomore Michelle Jones (2-1, 5.51 ERA) and freshman Erin Kipp (1-3, 5.81 ERA) will also make starts this weekend.
