@LATechSB Faces No. 12 Baylor Thursday

WACO, Texas - Louisiana Tech will play its final non-conference tune-up before opening Conference USA action when the Lady Techsters face 12th ranked Baylor Thursday at 6 p.m. in Waco.

Tech (8-11) then travels to San Antonio and open up league action Saturday with a three-game C-USA series against UTSA.

Head coach Mark Montgomery's team will play its fifth Top 25 team of season in the Lady Bears, who enter the contest with a 16-4 record overall. Baylor already owns impressive wins over Arkansas, Missouri, Stanford, Cal, Mississippi State, and South Alabama this season.

Baylor is led by a strong pitching staff that consists of Whitney Canion (8-3, 1.66 ERA), Heather Stearns (7-1, 1.20 ERA) and Liz Paul (1-0, 2.02 ERA) as the trio has held opposing teams to a .194 batting average on the season.

Offensively, Baylor boasts seven regulars batting over .300, including Kaitlyn Thumann (.462, 3 HR, 9 RBI), Ari Hawkins (.375, 8-9 SB), Linsey Hays (.362, 4 HR, 13 RBI), Clare Hosack (.353, 3 HR, 16 RBI), Sarah Smith (.345, 1 HR, 9 RBI), Jordan Strickland (.316, 3 HR, 10 RBI) and Lindsey Cargill (.308, 3 HR, 11 RBI).

The Lady Techsters have already faced Top 25 foes in Kentucky (twice), Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma but are still looking for their first win over a ranked opponent since 2009.

Tech is led offensively by Kristen Miles (.352, 15 runs), Bianca Duran (.333, 6 doubles, 6 RBI), Tori Charters (.308, 6 runs), Hailey Winter (.293, 2 HR, 6 RBI), Pauline Tufi (.291, 1 HR, 13 RBI), Erin Kipp (.264, 9 runs, 6-7 SB), Anna Cross (.240, 2 HR, 13 RBI) and Alayna Kipp (.205, 3 HR, 14 RBI).

 

 

In the circle, Duran (3-8, 4.01 ERA), Tufi (5-1, 3.28 ERA) and Cross (0-2, 4.63 ERA) continue to share the load of the action.

Tech leads the all-time series against Baylor 30-18, although the Bears have won 13 straight.
