LAFAYETTE, La. - Louisiana Tech will try to snap a 23-game losing streak against UL-Lafayette when the Lady Techster softball team travels to face the Ragin Cajuns in a mid-week doubleheader Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Lamson Park.
Tech (12-10) hasn't posted a win over UL-Lafayette (16-9) since the Lady Techsters defeated the Ragin Cajuns 3-1 during the 1998 season. Since that time ULL has dominated the series with only two of the 23 games being decided by two runs or less.
Head coach Mark Montgomery's team is coming off a three-game sweep of Southern this weekend that saw the Lady Techsters outscore the Lady Jaguars 34-12.
And although Tech enters the doubleheader ranked in the Top 25 in the nation in team batting average (.330) and No. 1 in the country in stolen bases per game (3.22), the Lady Techsters will be challenged by the perennial NCAA power Ragin Cajuns.
UL-Lafayette is led by sophomore pitcher Jordan Wallace, who boasts a 9-5 record with a 2.15 earned run average. Wallace has allowed only 59 hits in 81.1 innings of action while striking out 109 batters this year.
Offensively, UL-Lafayette boasts eight regulars batting over .300 led by Nerissa Myers (.395, 20 runs), Sarah Draheim (.391, 6 HR, 25 RBI), Sara Corbello (.381, 11 RBI), Brianna Cherry (.375, 7 HR, 27 RBI), Shellie Landry (.338, 6 HR, 32 RBI), Natalie Fernandez (.303, 15 runs) and Samantha Walsh (.300, 2 HR, 10 RBI).
