@LATechSB Hosts Northwestern State Wednesday

March 25, 2014

RUSTON - Louisiana Tech will step out of Conference USA action Wednesday when the Lady Techsters host Northwestern State at 6 p.m. at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.

After meeting six times last season, Wednesday night's game is the first of only two scheduled contests between LA Tech (11-20) and Northwestern State (13-14) this year. Tech travels to Natchitoches on April 23.

The Lady Techsters are coming off a weekend that saw them win two out of three at Middle Tennessee, posting 7-5 and 1-0 victories over the Blue Raiders in Saturday's sweep before falling 5-3 in Sunday's finale. Tech has won three of its last four games after falling in nine straight.

Offensively, sophomore outfielder Kristen Miles could return from an injury that has sidelined her over the past seven games. Miles leads Tech with a .348 batting average and a team-high tying 19 runs while Tori Charters (.293, 6 runs), Erin Kipp (.289, 19 runs, 11-13 SB), Bianca Duran (.281, 8 doubles, 15 RBI), Pauline Tufi (.270, 7 doubles, 20 RBI), Hailey Winter (.267, 5 doubles), Janine Godwin (.262, 12 runs, 5-8 SB),Katelynn Hill (.239, 7 RBI, 3-4 SB) and Anna Cross (.225, 2 HR, 18 RBI) are also producing offensively.

Duran (4-12, 3.83 ERA) and Tufi (7-5, 3.48 ERA) have logged the vast majority of innings in the circle for Tech.

Northwestern State is led offensively by Cassandra Barefield who boasts a .333 batting average with nine home runs and 22 RBI. Tara McKenney (.330, 9 runs, 6-7 SB), Brittany Virgoe (.314, 3 HR, 11 RBI), Cali Burke (.304, 3 HR, 11 RBI), and Brittany Jones (.299, 4 HR, 13 RBI) have also paced the Demons at the plate.

Kaylee Guidry (5-3, 3.16 ERA), Baylee Gray (2-1, 3.69), Shelby Sells (3-6, 3.81) and Skylar Cagle (3-4, 4.91) comprise the Demons pitching staff.

Louisiana Tech leads the all-time series against Northwestern State 52-42 with the two teams splitting the six games played during the 2013 season.
