LA Tech Softball Hosts NSU Wednesday

RUSTON - Louisiana Tech and Northwestern State will meet for the fifth time this season when the Lady Techsters host the Lady Demons Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.

Although LA Tech (13-15, 1-2 WAC) leads the all-time series 50-42 over NSU, the Lady Demons (23-6) have won three out of four games this year. Tech's lone victory was a 4-3 win in Natchitoches on March 2.

Head coach Mark Montgomery's team is coming off a weekend series in Las Cruces where the Lady Techsters won the opener 8-4 over New Mexico State before dropping Saturday's doubleheader 11-3 and 9-7 in games played in 30-40 mile per hour gusts all day.

Tech continues to be led offensively by freshmen Kristen Miles (.412, 20 runs, 11-12 SB) and Anna Cross (.338, 4 HR, 22 RBI, 15-16 SB) who rank among the WAC leaders in numerous offensive categories. Erin Kipp (.368, 10 doubles, 14 RBI), Melanie Goff (.349, 13 RBI), Alayna Kipp (.343, 11 RBI), Meghan Knowles (.333, 3 HR, 13 RBI), Janna Frandrup (.329, 13 RBI) and Amanda Krueger (.318, 4 HR, 16 RBI) are also providing consistent offensive output.

In the circle, the Lady Techsters continue to rely on a pitcher-by-committee philosophy led by Michelle Jones (8-8, 3.26 ERA), Cross (1.2, 3.65), Goff (1-1, 3.44), Erin Kipp (3-2, 5.25) and Frandrup (0-2, 7.00).

Northwestern State enters the game sporting a .321 team batting average led by Tara McKenney (.394, 19 RBI), Brittany Virgoe (.392, 5 HR, 24 RBI) and Brianna Rodriguez (.379, 4 HR, 28 RBI).



The Demons have a strong and deep pitching staff led by Kylie Roos (8-1, 1.18), Kaylee Guidry (6-1, 1.67) and Brooke Boening (6-4, 3.42 ERA).
