Techsters Travel To UTA Wednesday

ARLINGTON - With the beginning of Western Athletic Conference play under their belts, the Lady Techsters will hit the road to face non-conference competition when they take on the University of Texas-Arlington Mavericks in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Allan Saxe Field.

Tech (7-17, 0-3 WAC) begins its 10-game road trip by continuing to look for a win, after dropping eight of its last 10 games. Head coach Sarah Dawson said the goal for Wednesday’s doubleheader is to win and get some momentum going further into conference.

“After the tough competition we faced against Hawaii this past weekend, I expect our girls to come out with the same intensity,” Dawson said. “Hopefully those games raised our level of play because it’s going to take our best ball to beat not only UTA but every team we face.”

UTA (16-10, 8-2 Southland Conference) is led offensively by Katie Jones (.389, 28 hits, 6 2B, 1 HR, 17 RBIs) and Dee Jay Nelson (.337, 31 hits, 4 2B, 2 HR, 20 RBIs).

Tech is led offensively by Regan Clark (.342, 26 hits, 5 2B, 3 HR, 18 RBIs), Emma Barnes (.317, 26 hits, 6 2B, 4 3B, 13 RBIs) and Rochelle Sandberg (.316, 24 hits, 2 2B, 3 HR, 12 RBIs).

Dawson said the success of the team will have to be a collective effort.

“Once we can get more of the players’ confidence where it needs to be, that’s how we are going to obtain the momentum we need,” Dawson said. “Some individuals have had success throughout the year already, and hopefully that will be contagious and become more widespread.”

Tech leads the all-time series against UTA 23-18.
