Goff, Cross Earn WAC Honors

RUSTON - Louisiana Tech's Melanie Goff and Anna Cross have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 25-31. This is the first-ever honor for both.

Goff, a senior outfielder from San Diego, Calif., led Louisiana Tech to a 4-0 record last week against Northwestern State and UT Arlington, two teams which had a combined record of 41-19 coming into the week. She posted a batting average of .800, with an on-base percentage of .846 and slugging percentage of 1.200. Goff got a hit and drove in a run in all four games. She reached base safely in 12 of 13 plate appearances on the week while recording an RBI in seven of her eight hits. Goff also registered four doubles on the week.

Cross, a freshman from Cross Roads, Texas, entered the week with just one win on the season and went 3-0 with a 1.75 ERA in 16 innings of work last week. She registered her first career shutout and allowed just one hit in a win over Northwestern State, which entered the game with a 24-6 record and a team batting average of .321. Cross then registered a complete-game 4-1 win over UT Arlington, scattering five hits and one walk in a career-high 7.0 innings of action. She returned in game three of the series against the Mavericks and picked up her third win. After allowing UTA to score three runs on four hits in the first inning, Cross allowed no runs and two singles in the final 3.0 innings before giving way to a reliever.

Other Hitter of the Week nominees included: Amber Olive of New Mexico State hit .632 with one double and three RBI ... San Jose State's Nicole Schultz hit .471 with three doubles, a homer and five RBI ... Nina Villanueva of UT Arlington hit .429 with one RBI last week ... UTSA's Darian Blake hit .500 with three doubles and one RBI ... Hailey Froton of Utah State hit .600 with two doubles and four RBI on the week.

 

 

Other Pitcher of the Week nominees included: Alex Newman of New Mexico State went 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 18.2 innings of work ... San Jose State's Amanda Pridmore posted three saves on the week to set the program record for saves in a season at six ... Callie Collins of UT Arlington posted five strikeouts in two appearances last week.
